White beaches and crystal clear waters
THE SEASIDE AND OTRANTO
The agritourism Vigna Corlallo directly overlooks the wonderful beach of the Baia dei Turchi (Otranto), one of the most exclusive locations of Salento. Our guests can access the sea through a private gate, walk along a path inside the old oak forest and then reach the beach, only 300 meters from the villas. The beach, with its white and fine sand, is in part free and in part equipped with beach loungers and straw beach umbrellas (bookable there) and a small bar. The sea is crystal-clear with several nuances. Even this year the sea was awarded a European Blue Flag. Other beaches and lidos are close; you can reach them by car just few minutes, and on foot through the pine groves. In 1480 the Turks landed on the Baia dei Turchi beach (“Bay of the Turks“, this is why the name) and put the city of Otranto to the sword, killing 800 men who refused to recant the Christian religion. Pope Bergoglio in 2014 proclaimed theese 800 martyrs saints. Their relics lie in the cathedral of the wonderful city of Otranto, just few minutes away from Vigna Corallo. Otranto is an architectural jewel, one of the most fascinating places in Salento and Apulia. An ancient city, it was a crossroad of peoples, and a land of saints and merchants. The surroundings, especially the beautiful localities of Castro, Santa Cesarea, the Alimini lakes and the city of Lecce, are worth visiting.
